SKILLED WORKER APPLICATION

Canada is currently recruiting immigrants who have:

• a good education

• employment skills that are portable to the Canadian labour market

• sufficient funds to settle

• communication skills (in English and/or French) that will enable them to integrate readily into the Canadian community

• Furthermore, immigrants must be of good character and have good health.

Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (See www.cic.gc.ca/english/about/laws-policy/index.asp) came into effect on June 28, 2002. Changes to the selection factors and application procedures for Federal Skilled Workers and Business applicants were part of this legislation.

According to the legislation, Skilled Workers are people who may become permanent residents on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada. Skilled Workers must:

    • meet the minimum work experience requirements;

    • earn enough points in the six factors (education, language ability, work experience, age, arranged employment and adaptability) to meet the pass mark,

AND

    • meet the minimum financial requirements.

APPLICATION FORMS

As a result of these changes, there are new APPLICATION FORMS to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa. These forms are available now online from this website or at  www.cic.gc.ca

To accompany the new application forms, there is a GUIDE FOR FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER APPLICANTS that:

    • explains the application process;

    • provides instructions on how to fill out the forms, and

    • provides information about the necessary documents and fees that you MUST include with your application.

THE APPLICATION

Most applicants apply directly to this office, but should you seek the assistance of an immigration consultant it is entirely your responsibility to determine their competence, and you should note that no special consideration is given to such applicants.

Please submit the following items to this office by mail.

1.  Application form - fully completed application form.

2.   Processing Fee - See the FEES page for information on the processing fees.  The fee must be paid by bank draft in Canadian Dollars and can be purchased at most major banks. This draft should be made payable to:

Please write your name and address on the reverse of your bank draft. This fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of your application.  

DO NOT SEND CASH.  IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

When your application is complete, together with the appropriate fee, send them to:

This list gives you general information about the type of documentation you will have to provide at a later date. We will request documents later, and provide you with four months to send them to us.

• A current Schedule 1 (IM0008 Schedule 1) for yourself, your spouse, and each of your children over age 18

• Schedule 3 (IM0008 Schedule 3)for principal applicant

• Additional Family Information form (IMM5406)

Civil Documents

The following documents will be required, if applicable, for yourself, your spouse, and for each of your dependent children:

• Birth certificate

• Marriage certificate

• Divorce certificate

• Child custody order

• Adoption decree

• Death certificate

The following documents will be required, as applicable, for you, your spouse, and for each of your dependent children over age 18:

• Credentials/Certificates for all secondary and post-secondary courses completed.

• Official transcript(s) for secondary and post-secondary courses completed.

Proof of work experience for the last 10 years which should include:

• Employment letters.

• Contracts.

• Pay-slips.

• Job description endorsed by your employer’s personnel department

• Bank statements and passbooks.

• Fixed deposit receipts.

• Securities (shares, debentures, bonds)

• Evidence of property ownership and mortgage statement

• If you are claiming points for English and/or French, authorized language test results (IELTS, TEF, etc) or a written submission providing evidence of your language ability.

• Passport photocopies.

• Proof of your relationship to your relative in Canada, evidence he/she is a citizen or permanent resident and evidence your relative is residing in Canada. This must include a copy of their Canadian passport, citizenship or permanent resident card.

• Recent original Police Clearance Certificates for you or your dependents aged 18 years and above, issued by the police authorities for each country in which you or your dependants have resided for six months or more since you turned 18 years.

• Photographs as per attached specifications, height and eye colour information for principal applicant and all dependents.
