TEMPORARY WORKER APPLICATIONS

INFORMATION FOR HEALTHCARE STUDENTS DOING ELECTIVE PLACEMENTS IN CANADA


The following information applies to healthcare (e.g. medical, nursing and physiotherapy) students seeking to enter Canada to complete medical electives or clinical clerkships at Canadian medical teaching institutions.

Healthcare students do not require work permits. You are not required to submit a work permit application – please do not use the Worker Forms page to download application kits and document checklists as these are not designed for you and may delay processing. Instructions on how to apply are listed below.

All applicants will be required to undergo a medical examination with a designated medical physician. After your application is received, medical examination forms will be sent to you.

HOW TO APPLY

All applicants must submit the following:

1. Application form for healthcare student (download here)

2. Two passport photographs taken within the past 6 months

3. Approval letter from the relevant regulatory body in Canada. NB This is NOT required for students destined to Ontario, Alberta or British Columbia.

4. Letter on headed notepaper from the Canadian medical institution you will visit confirming its acceptance for the period of observation. E-mails will not be accepted.

5. Two self-addressed envelopes

6(a) If you do not require a temporary resident visa to travel to Canada, you should provide a photocopy of the identity page of your passport. You do not need to pay any processing fee to our office.

(b) If you require a temporary resident visa to travel to Canada, you must provide your original passport and pay the processing fee for a temporary resident visa .  Click here to see whether you need a visa.
